Keep Holding

keep holding...

Between having a cold and midterms I haven't had too much free time, hence the quietness here.

I want to thank everyone who has commented or sent me encouraging emails. Thank you so much for your support and kind words, it really means a lot to me.

There is talk of a few of us taking a mental health day and going apple picking. If this happens, expect many recipes and pictures of apples in various states of eatability.

Shoulder Holder

Shoulder Holder

I just finished this last night.

The white part was a "finished" piece that I found the other day. It was just this thing that was too wide or short to be anything much, so I added a small strip of mint green and joined the pieces together to make a shoulder warmer. This is going to come in very useful this weekend as Savannah is suppose to get into the 40s (which makes me very excited).

Crock text messaged me this morning to tell me it's snowing in Chicago. Oh, I miss snow.

Vintage Cooking

Sixty-Five Delicious DishesA little while ago I acquired some cooking booklets from the 1920s. This one is all recipes that are made with bread. There are some interesting recipes in here, but I haven't had the time to make any yet.

Here are some scans of the recipes spreads.

Createurs a Paris

ISBN 4-573-01127-7I just got my new stash of Editions de Paris books. I've only had a chance to look at Createurs a Paris (ISBN4-573-01127-7). Yes, I have an addiction when it comes to these books and I promise to go into counseling after I get all the pretty ones. Anyway, it is quite a lovely book of artist's spaces and they even have little diy projects from some of the artists. Enough talk, eye candy time.

ISBN 4-573-01127-7This is one of the spreads that has a little projects on how to alter a shirt and make it a bit more interesting. This artist has a great work space.

My scanner started acting up halfway through scanning, so I don't have anything of my favorite spaces. I will have give my scanner a good talking to and post the rest of the ones that make my brain squishy at a later date.

In a nutshell

In a nutshell
© Piled Higher & Deeper

This pretty much sums up my first month in grad school.
(Read full comic here)

I really have no idea what kind of crazy pills I was taking that made me think I would have more time to sew and craft when I got to grad school. It is proving to be a true baptism by fire. This quarter will determine the toughness of my skin.

The claw shows the lion

shot

"What strikes me is the fact that in our society, art has become something which is related only to objects and not to individuals, or to life. That art is something which is specialized or which is done by experts who are artists. But couldn't everyone's life become a work of art? Why should the lamp or the house be an art object, but not our life?"

Gentlemen with rosy cheeks

The Gentleman's Alphabet BookI got this book right before I left Chicago and I absolutely love it. It is entitled The Gentleman's Alphabet Book, but is certain to make any gentleman blush. It's quite freaking hilarious, though, most definitely not for the faint at heart. It goes through the alphabet associating each letter with a deviant sexual act and matching it with a little clever limerick. Both the limericks and illustrations are wonderful. Being in the arts though, I tend to had a fondness for the illustrations. The book begins with "Aphrodisiac" and ends with "Zoophilia" with other terms in both humorous and poor taste stuck in between. My favorite is the letter "E" because the illustration makes me giggle every time.

E is for...

Exhibitionist
A cellist abandoned his bow
And with curtains akimbo let show
His this and his that
To an onlooking cat
And to neighbors who found it de trop

I will always be someone else's girl
